One Week!

Where on Earth does the time go?  I can't believe we have had our sweet baby girl for a whole week!  Kel (So far...knock on wood) has been such a good baby.  At night she is able to self sooth so we can get some much needed sleep.  She even gave us a good 4 hour stretch between feedings last night.  (Okayed by her Dr. of course!)

We had some problems with breast feeding and jaundice...she wasn't getting enough to eat.  Per the suggestion of her Dr I switched to pumping and now she is finally caught up on her messy diapers and her wet diapers are no longer dark concentrated urine.  (Who knew a messy diaper could make a mommy so happy?) Her jaundice is going away, too.  I haven't given up on b/fing yet, she'll finally try to latch instead of screaming but she still doesn't get much milk when she does.  (She doesn't swallow while she nurses.)  I plan on working with a lactation specialist to give it one more good try.

If you follow Russell on Facebook, you have seen the bazillion pictures that he has posted.  Here are a few of my favorites!

  1. they do grow super fast...makes me sad too :(

She is beautiful Liana. Take good care of yourself too. Breastfeeding is H.A.R.D. It's a full time job that is for sure. If you have any questions, let me know. -Becca

the messy diaper part made me laugh!

  2. Can't remember if I told you this or not, but I really struggled with breastfeeding Savanna too. It took us a good 3 weeks before I finally sighed in relief of having it down. There were a lot of tears and frustrating nights, so I really feel your pain! I ended up pumping at night for a few days and the relief that she was finally eating and sleeping at night was just the break we needed to give it another try. I hope it works out for you! I love the convenience and sweet closeness of nursing and I love it so much I actually still haven't weaned Jack yet! If it doesn't work out, the best feeling in the world is just knowing your baby is getting food, no matter how she gets it, and your bond with her will be just as strong! Good luck either way!
